What we do

There is a huge opportunity for us to harness the power of tourism for good - to improve lives and protect the world’s precious natural resources.

Tourism is the world’s biggest industry and as with any big business, it has the potential to have a negative as well as positive impact. It can damage areas of natural beauty and endanger wildlife - or it can work with the environment and use income from tourism to help conserve these precious resources. It can import goods and services-or it can boost the local economy and spread the benefit of tourism to local families in need.

The Travel Foundation is an independent UK charity that aims to help tourism make a positive contribution to places we love to visit.

… A positive contribution to the natural environment. Helping to preserve endangered wildlife, protect and enhance areas of outstanding beauty and save precious natural resources.

… A positive contribution to local people. Helping to spread the benefit of your visit to local families most in need and preserve unique traditions and cultures for future generations
.

The charity works in close partnership with the UK travel industry, governments, conservation and campaign groups to meet its aims, testing out innovative solutions that guide action at favourite destinations across the world.
