Campaign for Environmentally Responsible Tourism (CERT)
CERT operates an award scheme that recognises travel and tourism companies who are working to improve their environmental practices. CERT also sells Destination Packs for popular holiday destinations which include a list of recommended holiday suppliers e.g. hotels and car hire.
Each Destination Pack supports a particular project at the destination and details of the project are included in the pack.
Ecumenical Coalition on Tourism
The Ecumenical Coalition on Tourism is a Hong Kong based coalition of Regional Ecumenical Organisations and over seventy secular and faith-based groups. It seeks to unite people around collective efforts that negate the undesirable effects of modern tourism and, in its place, institutesocially responsible and ethically oriented tourism. It believes that tourism must be based on justice and sustainability for host communities and that, therefore, tourism planning and practice must be democratized. ECOT advocates respect for the protection and dignity of the human rights of women, children, indigenous peoples and workers in the tourist trade. It opposes tourism projects that create environmental devastation.
Green Globe has an online travel planner that enables travellers to find companies and communities that are operating according to minimum environmental and social standards. Searches can be made by region and then by company, community and ecotourism, allowing you to build up a personal travel itinerary.
Responsibletravel.com promotes holidays with companies that have met minimum environmental, social and economic standards of practice. There are over 1000 tours and accommodations featured online in over 100 countries. You can also sign up to their monthly e-magazine which includes destination articles, travel ideas, special deals and competitions.
Tourism Concern is a membership organisation campaigning for ethical and fairly traded tourism. The organisation works with people and organisations all over the world to promote tourism that benefits local communities.
